The Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a breathtaking stretch of coastline in southern Campania, renowned for its spectacular landscapes, colorful villages perched on the sea, and the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it features gems like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, connected by scenic roads and a rich gastronomic and cultural tradition.

Positano is an ancient fishing village, set in a stunning and picturesque panoramic position along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sorrentine Peninsula. Its townscape is unique, designed on a vertical axis: a seductive dream of small white houses stacked upon one another, suspended between sea and sky, surrounded by oases of palm trees, patches of land, and citrus groves in the characteristic terraces, almost defying gravity. Then there’s the cobalt blue sea, constantly renewing itself with new patterns among the steep cliffs, merging with the dark, fine sandy beaches. The key elements of your visit to Positano are certainly the sea and shopping. Positano is the ideal place to embrace the dolce vita, in a dreamlike landscape of wild nature where Mediterranean houses and charming residences cling, with enchanting domes like the beautiful colorful majolica dome of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the patron saint of the town.

Amalfi Its foundation dates back to the Romans. Starting from the 9th century, it was the first among the maritime republics to compete with Pisa, Venice and Genoa for control of the Mediterranean Sea. Amalfi reached its peak splendor in the 11th century, after which a rapid decline began. Declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1997. The first thing to see are the magical alleys of Amalfi: here among the many shops you can also taste fried fish cuoppo. The Cathedral of Amalfi is certainly the most representative monument, place of worship and pillar of the Amalfi panorama. The main monument and pride of Amalfi, the cathedral, dedicated to Sant'Andrea, has a façade with decorated mosaics and is accessed via an imposing staircase. To visit:  the Paper Museum located in an old water mill.To see at the museum: the ancient machines with which the rags were shredded, the paper was obtained from this important raw material. More modern machines like the Dutch machine. The museum worth visiting is the Arsenale della Repubblica: the characteristic feature is the downward slope which was used to facilitate the exit of ships, the structure is made of stone, there is the Museum of the Compass and the Maritime Duchy

Ravello was probably founded by Roman colonists in the 6th century. they pushed into those mountainous areas believing them to be a good shelter to escape from the vandalistic destruction of the barbarians; the first certain news about Ravello dates back to the 9th century. Around the year 1000 it was populated by a group of nobles from the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, who rebelled against the authority of the doge. The city quickly became prosperous, in particular thanks to a thriving wool spinning mill formerly called "Celendra". In the 11th century the people of Ravelle tried to free themselves from ties with Amalfi: the village was surrounded by walls and the patrician families began to build their own sumptuous homes, electing their own duke; in 1086 Ravello also became a bishopric. With the Norman conquest and their affirmation in the South, the decline of Ravello began, which became part of the kingdom in 1131. In 1137 the Republic of Pisa devastated Ravello for three days: despite this the people of Ravello, skilled merchants, had also conquered the Arab markets and, between the 12th and 13th centuries. Our tour will go through the history of the city through its most important monuments, from Villa Rufolo to Villa Cimbrone passing through the Cathedral dedicated to San Pantaleone, patron saint of the city. Walking along the streets of the city you come across small shops with evocative beauty such as ceramics, coral, or real contemporary works of art.
